While the world continues to search for a balance between regulating digital platforms and ensuring fair taxation, Kazakhstan is already taking action–and achieving results. Amid the rapid digitalization of the economy and global pressure on fiscal systems, the country is adopting cutting-edge tools to promote transparency and boost budget revenue. One such measure is the digital services tax, commonly referred to as the «Google tax.» Since 2022, this mechanism has effectively targeted the income of foreign digital companies providing services to users in Kazakhstan. Search engines, streaming platforms, online games, marketplaces, and other IT services are subject to taxation. Since its implementation, the state budget has received over 83 billion tenge. Furthermore, this measure has led to more than 100 foreign digital companies officially registering in Kazakhstan. These companies offer services across a wide range of sectors, from entertainment content to business infrastructure and online tourism. Against the backdrop of global discussions on fair taxation of digital giants, Kazakhstan provides a practical example of how to innovate without waiting for international consensus. This step not only advances digital sovereignty but also strengthens economic resilience in the context of global transformation.
